Committees ยป Religious Practices

The Religious Practices committee's main focus is to assist the Rabbis with regard to religious standards for Kol Emeth. These include worship, kashrut and learning. We are committed to developing lay membership leaders and allowing the congregation to benefit from all members' varied talents. We are committed to the traditional understanding our Rabbis as primarily teachers rather than prayer-leaders. All parts of our services are led by congregants, guests of the congregation, and at times, the Rabbis. The Religious Practices committee is responsible for organizing and scheduling these service leaders (Ba'al Tefillah), Torah readers (Ba'al Kriah), Haftarah readers, and ushers as needed for Shabbat and the Yomim Tovim (holidays).

Other Responsibilities include making recommendations to the Kol Emeth board of directors about the selection of siddurim (prayer books), Machzorim (holiday prayerbooks) and Humashim (Torah and Haftarah books) that will be used by the congregation. In conjunction with Rabbi Booth and the board, we also collaborate on policies regarding the level of kashrut in the synagogue kitchen, appropriate dress on the Bimah, congregational participation on Shabbatot when there is a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and ensuring that we have a daily minyan.
