Lovingkindness Made Simple: The Kol Emeth Chesed Recipe List (click here)
The Chesed Committee wants to simplify the work of our volunteer cooks, so we're asking congregants to submit recipes that are easy to make and delicious to eat. Our goal is to compile a list of recipes that are labor-lite and time-efficient, so that more volunteers will be happy to take part in this mitzvah. This will be an ongoing project and recipes will be posted on the synagogue website for easy access.
Have you ever received a meal from one of our Chesed volunteers? If so, you know just how wonderful it is to feel cared for, supported and - yes - fed by our loving community. Our volunteers cook for individuals and families in many circumstances and for various reasons: when a new baby has joined a family, during a shiva period, when someone is ill or in recovery. When someone expresses a need to us, we do our best to help.
Our angel cooks have come up with quiches and casseroles, salads and stews. The menus can be as simple as a hearty soup and bread, or a more ambitious meal that includes salad, main course and dessert. It is up to the discretion of the volunteer cook to decide what s/he wishes to make. The only requirements are that we respect the kashrut and dietary requests of the recipients: our meals are generally vegetarian unless a kosher kitchen is used to prepare meat/poultry for a kosher home.
If you have a recipe - or several - that have worked well for a chesed meal, or other delicious ideas, please email them to renasdesk@gmail.com. This will be a fabulous resource for the synagogue and make it easier for more members to join our pool of chesed volunteers.
