In partnership with Masorti Olami, MERCAZ Olami and Marom Olami, Masorti in Israeli is reaching out with an urgent appeal to help gain the freedom of the three kidnapped Israeli soldiers who remain in the hands of terrorists. Udi Goldwasser, Eldad Regev and Gilad Shalit are alone and cut off from everything they have ever known. None of us can stand idly by when we have a chance to raise our voices on their behalf and in concert with the voices of their families.
A coalition of Jewish organizations, programs and schools are now involved in a global outreach effort to each secure at least one million signatures on a petition to the incoming Secretary General of the United Nations. The petition will be presented in mid-February at a major event that will include the families of the soldiers. Please take a minute to log onto the website: www.freethesoldiers.org
We're asking that you join this critical campaign to bring international attention to the soldiers' plight by adding your name to the petition. It only takes a minute and means so much to their families to know that they are not alone in their struggle to bring home these brave young men who are husbands, sons, brothers and uncles.
When we have collected one million signatures, we will be able to join with organizations from across the Jewish world in delivering our petition to the UN and to the halls of power everywhere. Your support is greatly appreciated.

- Masorti Movement in Israel www.masorti.org
- Please go to www.masorti.org and under "What's New" click on "personal letters" to read letters and reports that have been posted. They are at once heartbreaking and a reaffirmation of the spirit of our people. They also demonstrate how much Masorti is part of the fabric of Israeli society. Unfortunately, that includes reporting on soldiers killed in action. You, no doubt, have and will receive "emergency" appeals from many organizations. Now is the time, however, when Masorti really needs you and your continued support. Events have not only placed new burdens and costs on our communities, they have also affected the ability of our kehillot to raise their own funds. Masorti needs you to give generously and to do it now. You can send your check to Masorti Foundation, 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 832 New York, NY 10115. You can also call us at 212-870-2216 or 877-287-7414 (toll free) to make a credit card gift. Or you can go to www.masorti.org and click on "make a contribution."

Email ulpanakv@netvision.net.il One thing we could ask from our fellow Kol Emeth congregants: Ulpan Akiva has space to help other Israelis, especially those who can't afford to relocate from the north and have young children. Many of us here have donated money and we have re-located 3 families so far from Kiryat Shmona which is less than 8 miles from the Lebanese border. We have room for more, but the Ulpan needs money to help. If you'd like to have a positive direct impact on the current situation, please send help. One way to help is to visit Israel right now, but if that isn't in your plans, please consider sending money to help the nearly 1/2 million people who are spending time in bomb shelters in the North. Please send your donation directly to the ulpan. You can send a check or phone in a credit card number. It's helpful if you can let the ulpan know that money is coming, so they can continue to invite more families to come stay with us. You can reach the ulpan at ulpanakv@netvision.net.il or Ulpan Akiva Netanya, P.O.B. 6086, 42160 Netanya Israel Tel : 972-9-8352312, 972-9-8352313 (Sun through Thu 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) Fax : 972-9-8652919

- A number of people have asked me what they could do to help and I have replied over and over again to DAVEN. To ask, beg and plead to the Creator of the world to end this situation (do NOT demand it). This is something EVERYONE can do and it helps immensely. DO NOT think that your tefillos are insignificant, this is the yetzer haRa talking to prevent you from communing with HaShem. Hang up the phone, turn off the TV and radio and talk to HaShem!! There is one other thing everyone can also do, which I hesitate suggesting. I know all too well how we are all bombarded (no pun intended) by requests for tzadaka. However, this is qualitatively different. We say on the high holidays "Teshuva, Tefilah, and Tzadaka" saves a person from death, this is both literal and figurative! There are 2 organizations (both tax deductible) which asked me to post requests for emergency Funds for Tsfat. Please, whether $5 or $5000, be counted!
